First Day: Charlottesville to Lebanon, Tennessee

Berries

Fall is a great time to travel, and soon we will be on the road again.  The weather is good and the crowds have thinned out. This trip is a long awaited one, and combines our interest in history, old roads, and genealogy.  We will drive the length of the Natchez Trace, spend some time in Natchez and Chattanooga, then drive through a part of Tennessee settled by my Wolfenbarger ancestors.  I’ll keep my notes here, and some of the photos I take.  Look on Flickr for more photos!

We started out heading towards Lebanon, Tennessee, the first leg of our trip.  We’ve traveled this way before, more than once, so our goal was to get here in the most pleasant way we could.  The weather cooperated as it was sunny and clear, so with our iPod on Shuffle, we set out.

Biggest treat – a convoy of antique automobiles!  There must have been a show somewhere southwest of here.

Lebanon is just east of Nashville, Tennessee.  We spent the night here once before, in 1971, traveling in our Mustang.  We were driving from Virginia Beach to Memphis – a young Navy family moving to a new duty station.

Tomorrow we’ll head to the northern end of the Natchez Trace, just south of Nashville.  We plan to drive southwards at a leisurely pace.  We’ll spend time visiting interesting spots along the trace, and stop for the night in Tupelo, Mississippi.
