[rev_slider about]

Born in Ohio, I settled in Virginia early on. I have had a lifelong interest in painting and drawing, and studied art at every opportunity, eventually graduating with a degree in Studio Art from Mary Baldwin College.

I enjoy the physical aspect of creating art, and I am as concerned about the surfaces as I am about the image. The paintings displayed here are mostly oil on canvas, and are based on landscapes and natural images, with emphasis on the complexity of colors and the surface textures that can be achieved in this medium. I primarily work with oil on canvas, but I also enjoy watercolor and collage, as well as drawing in pencil and ink.

Most of my inspiration comes from nature. I love to be outdoors, although I don’t like to paint outdoors. Sometimes I will make a few quick sketches, but mostly I use photography to record the subject, and will work from these photos when in the studio.

I’m a member of the Piedmont Council for the Arts, and the Charlottesville Albemarle Art Association, where I regularly participate in their group shows, including the last several Annual Juried Shows.

Other awards include a Best in Show at the University of Virginia Hospital Auxiliary Annual Employees’ Art Exhibit in 2008 (Juror – Beth Nichols, Director and Curator, Nichols Gallery Annex, Gordonsville, Virginia) and an Honorable Mention at the same show in 2003 (Juror – Richard Crozier, Professor of Studio Art, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia) .
