NOLA

  • Medium: Oil
  • Date: 2011
  • Size: 10 inches by 8 inches
  • Description: I don’t understand my obsession with empty chairs, but I do know that I love that image. Maybe it’s because I don’t paint people well, so I use the chair as the metaphor for the person. Or maybe it’s because I like chairs in general, and have a collection of different chairs in my home. This image isn’t from a chair I have, but it’s one I wish I had. I found it in a book of old photographs of New Orleans interiors. It’s part of a set – the other one is “Li’l Red.” I made the painting on a wooden panel with deep sides, giving me the opportunity to extend the image around the sides.
